Addictions Counselling

An AHS addictions counsellor offers support and counselling at Sexsmith Secondary School on a weekly basis to students who . . . . .

  • struggle with addiction
  • want to prevent harmful involvement
  • want to know it they are at risk
  • live in families where there is or has been alcohol or drug abuse

Talk to a principal or counsellor if you wish to meet with the AHS addictions counsellor.

(First Nations, Metis and Inuit Liaison Worker

Cindy Wunsch, our First Nations, Metis and Inuit liason worker, is available multiple times per week. Her role is to:​

  • Meet with  students to help as​sess and support the academic and social needs of the students
  • Support  students in their efforts to obtain an education
  • Assist  students to develop pride in, and appreciation for, their  culture and heritage
  • Assist teachers and those working with  students to develop an understanding and respect forFNMI culture
  • Promote awareness in the school and communityserve as liaison between  students with the various agencies concerned with the education and welfare of  people
  • Increase the knowledge and understanding of  history in a true and accurate fashion

Sexsmith Schools Community Team

What is it?

The school-community team is a joint service of Sexsmith Secondary School and Robert W. Zahara Public School.  It is made up of agency representatives who meet in the school to work closely and confidentially with parents and students who are in need of additional support. 

The team consists of the following members:


Mental Health Worker 
AHS Health Nurse
 First Nations, Metis and Inuit Support Worker 

 AHS Addictions Counsellor  
FCSS Counsellor (County of Grande Prairie)
School Principal & Counsellor
As needed:  R.C.M.P. Officer
